MANILA – Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes says the voter turnout for the overseas absentee voting (OAV) should go up by 70% once Internet voting for overseas Filipinos is allowed by law.

Brillantes says he is disappointed by the low turnout from both the overseas and local absentee voting.

"I’m definitely disappointed about the performance of OAV as well as LAV, mababa pareho. Wala tayong pagkukulang, konti lang lumabas,” he says.

Brillantes pointed out that overseas voters may not always have the time to drop by the nearest diplomatic post to vote.

"Hindi practicable pumunta sa embassy or consulate…The solution is Internet voting, we will push for that.”

The Committee on OAV estimated that the voter turnout in the last mid-term election was just at 117,000.
