MANILA – Personnel from 16 embassies, consulates and Manila Economic Cultural Offices (MECOs) attended a three-day training seminar for the resumption of the registration for Overseas Absentee Voters for the May 2016 Presidential elections.
The seminar, held at the Philippine Embassy in Singapore last April 23 to 25, was conducted by the Commission on Elections and the Department of Foreign Affairs-Overseas Voting Secretariat.
Comelec Commissioners Christian Robert Lim and Grace Padaca explained to the trainees the new provisions of the Overseas Absentee Voters Act, particularly the activation of a Resident Election Registration Board (RERB) at Post. This will determine the list of new registered voters at each Post.
The OAV registration process will begin on May 6, 2014 until October 21, 2015.
In Singapore, the registration will be held at the embassy from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as in various mobile sites in Singapore.
"We hope that our fellow Filipinos in Singapore will be able to take this opportunity to register to become voters and help the entire nation select the future leaders of our country," the embassy said.
