MANILA, Philippines -- The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday confirmed that three Filipinos have been jailed in Indonesia after they were caught carrying 15 kilos of shabu upon arrival in Jakarta.
DFA Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Raul Hernandez said the three men, who came from Hong Kong as tourists, were each carrying 5 kilos of shabu with a street value of $2.1 million in milk containers.
They were initially detained near the airport but will now be transferred to a jail in Jakarta.
Hernandez said consular officers were already able to visit the three and found them in good condition.
Embassy officials will also ensure that they will be given sufficient legal representation.
The DFA will also inform their families about their current situation.
The three men, whose names were not released, could face the death penalty if found guilty under Indonesia's drug laws. -- With Agence France Presse
