MANILA, Philippines – Ten-year-old Filipina singer Maria Aragon from Winnipeg, Canada might just share the stage with international singer Lady Gaga in the latter’s concert in Toronto in March.
This was after Aragon spoke to Lady Gaga
on Friday (Saturday in Manila) over the phone. The conversation was aired live over Winnipeg’s local FM station Hot 103.
Lady Gaga told Aragon how her rendition of “Born This Way” made her feel so elated that she was not able to contain her emotions upon watching her video on YouTube.
“Not only do you have such a beautiful voice and you are so joyful to watch but, every once in a while, whether people believe it or not, I have a very bad day. And I was not having such a good day... when Perez sent me the video of you singing 'Born This Way,' I was so overjoyed that I began to cry,” Lady Gaga said.
The international singer also revealed that the video of Aragon reminded her why she really wrote the song.
“I was so happy. This industry is very difficult to women sometimes and they want to tear us down and tear us apart. And I worked on 'Born This Way' for so long. But...when I saw you, so young and so beautiful singing those words so purely, it reminded me why I wrote this song in the first place and it reminded me why I make music,” she told Aragon.
Bringing Aragon to tears, the multi-awarded singer invited the young Filipina to sing with her onstage upon learning that Hot 103 will be flying her to Toronto for her concert next month.
Lady Gaga said, “Oh maybe you're just gonna have to come onstage with me and sing that song. What do you think?”
Lady Gaga and Aragon also did a little bit of the chorus of 'Born This Way' on air.
After singing, Aragon couldn’t stop crying. She, however, told Lady Gaga how much she loves her music.
In response, Lady Gaga told the young Filipina that she will always be supportive of her.
“Don’t cry. I love you too. Thank you for believing in me. I will always believe in you. I promise you, Maria, when you grow and become a big superstar, I will still be there clapping for you in the audience next time,” she said.
On Thursday, the pop superstar posted in her official Twitter account a video of Aragon singing a cover of her song.
She has described the 10-year-old Filipina as “the future" (Related story: Lady Gaga praises young Pinay singer
