From Artex to the Arctic

In his quest to understand the impact of climate change, broadcast journalist Atom Araullo begins a journey in the Philippines that ends deep in the frozen arctic.

He first visits Artex Compound in Malabon, a place that is perpetually underwater. Although seasonal rains and flooding are not uncommon in the Philippines, it seems to be getting worse and worse every year. Could this be the future waiting for millions of Filipinos?

From Malabon, Atom travels to the Verde Island Passage, a place of rich marine biodiversity. The sea is a crucial resource for the country, but because of the changing climate, areas like this are now under threat.

Meanwhile, thousands of miles away from the Philippines, climate change is being felt, too. In no other place is this more evident than in Svalbard, a frozen archipelago near the north pole. Here, glaciers are melting at an alarming rate, dramatically changing the landscape and ecosystem.

How should we face the existential threat of climate change?
