TIMELINE: The Philippines' dengue vaccine program
Nearly 2 years ago, the Philippines became the first Asian country to greenlight the use of the world's first-ever dengue vaccine in a bid to curb the spread of the mosquito-borne disease in the country.
Since then, the immunization program has been hounded by questions over its safety, efficacy, and the funding required to support it.
On Tuesday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ordered the suspension of the sale of the dengue vaccine after its maker warned the public against the use of its own product. Government is also bent at seeking a refund for its P3.5-billion purchase of the vaccine.
