Big smiles and tears of joy were evident as inmates shared their accomplishments with their loved ones during the Manila City Jail’s commencement exercise on Thursday.

A total of 614 inmates successfully completed the Alternative Learning System implemented by the Department of Education.

The program, which helps detainees develop their skills through different training programs, prepares inmates for their eventual reintegration to society once they are released.

A total of 114 inmates finished elementary education, 345 completed secondary level, and 158 finished the INfed (Informal education) program of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
