MANILA - Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos remains hopeful that Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte will run for president in 2016, with her brother, Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., as his running mate.

Speaking to reporters Thursday, the governor said she would prefer that more candidates seek the presidency, noting that there are more vice presidential wannabes than presidential contenders.

So far, only four are running for president next year -- Vice President Jejomar Binay, former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, Senator Grace Poe, and OFW Family Club Party-list Rep. Roy Señeres.

Meanwhile, five have announced that they will run for vice president, namely Senators Francis Escudero, Antonio Trillanes IV, Alan Peter Cayetano, Marcos, and Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo.

Escudero is the running mate of Poe while Robredo is the running mate of Roxas. The sixth possible vice presidential candidate is Senator Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan II, who is being courted by Binay.

Both Marcos and Cayetano have separately met with Duterte in Davao City in the hopes of convincing him to run for president.

"Sa kay Mayor Duterte, tingnan natin, kasi si Mayor mas pakipot pa kesa sa babae," Imee Marcos said with a laugh.

"Excited nga lahat kung anong gagawin ni Mayor Rody and hopefully makapag-decide siya para mabigyan ng seleksyon sapagkat parang bitin ang tao sa tatlong presidente lang at anim yung vice president. Sana madagdagan pa yung choices," she added.

Her brother earlier said that the Davao City mayor promised to support him in his vice presidential bid. Marcos, likewise, vowed to support Duterte should he eventually decide to seek the presidency.

'DAPAT MAY ALINDOG PA RIN'

Meanwhile, the governor just laughed off speculations that her photo on the October 2015 cover of a local society magazine was heavily photoshopped.

While some praised her for being one of the "most beautiful and talented" politicians in the country, some claimed that her photo on the Philippine Tatler cover was edited to give her a leaner body and a younger face.

"Wala, kababawan lang ng kaligayahan kasi tumatanda na ako, tapos may nag-alok na kung gusto ko raw magparetrato, eh di nagparetrato. Eh yun na nga, natutuwa naman ako maganda naman ang picture. Sabi nila Photoshopped. So flattered naman ako at pinagdududahan," she said, smiling.

"Siyempre kailangan paninindigan, habang tumatanda dapat at least may alindog pa rin!" added Imee, who will turn 60 in November.

"Sobrang nakakatawa dahil hindi na ako sanay magpaayos. Andito kami sa bukid, namimigay ng abono at binhi. Eh biglang nag-cover girl, nagpa-make up ako ng bonggang-bongga. It's fun, it's a great experience because I'm so old already. For all the seniors out there, panindigan." -- Report from Grace Alba, ABS-CBN News Ilocos
