MANILA - President Benigno S. Aquino III has asked Leni Robredo to run for Senate, the lawmaker confirmed.
Robredo, who is the incumbent representative of Camarines Sur's third district, is the widow of the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.
According to Robredo, the president made the offer two weeks ago, in an event at the palace.
Robredo said she is open to the idea of running for Senate, but conceded there are other factors ought to be considered.
"Sabi ko naman, open ako na iconsider tumakbo bilang senador pero hindi pa ako makadecide as of the moment kasi marami pa ring factors na kinokonsider," said Robredo.
The lawmaker explained that she only sees running for Senate as an opportunity to serve the people further.
"Tinitingnan ko lang naman yung pagtataas ng posisyon bilang pagkakataon na lalong makapagsilbi. Pero ayaw ko rin naman na pabayaan (ang aking distrito). Klaro naman sa akin why I am here in the first place," Robredo added.
According to Robredo, she needs about two months before she can make a decision, but the Palace is insistent to get an answer by the end of the month. - with a report from Kate Delovieres, ABS-CBN News Bicol
