MANILA - ABS-CBN News Digital has been named a finalist for 2 categories at the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) Awards, which honor editorial excellence in both traditional and new media in the region.
ABS-CBN News Digital's "Buhay pa kami': Dispatches from Marawi," penned by Jeff Canoy, is a finalist for Excellence in Explanatory Reporting.
Published on the ABS-CBN News Digital website in July 2017, the special report, which features photos from Canoy and Val Cuenca, looks into how Muslims, Christians, and ordinary civilians survived the 5-month siege of Marawi City by Islamic State sympathizers.
ABS-CBN News Digital website's "Healing the wounds from the drug war," meanwhile, is a finalist for Excellence in Feature Writing.
Written and shot by Fernando Sepe, the feature taps into the sorrow of those who lost loved ones in the government's anti-narcotics drive, which has seen some 4,200 killed.
Now on its 20th year, the SOPA awards have become a world-class benchmark to recognize the best practices in journalism in Asia Pacific.
Entries to the awards' 17 categories are judged by over 100 media professionals and members of the academe.
