MANILA, Philippines - Close to 19 years after the tragic incident, the site of the Ozone Disco fire that claimed 162 lives is being cleared.
Several shops have come and gone in front of the actual site of the club at the back of the property that burned to the ground on March 18, 1996, but the site of the club has been abandoned since the fateful day.
In March 2001, the club owners were sentenced to prison and fined. And just recently, on November 20, 2014, the Sandiganbayan found several Quezon City officials guilty of graft and sentenced to prison for allowing the club to operate.
The original owners of the property have since sold the property and now, the new owner contracted a few workers to clear the site of the club and the abandoned shops in front. It is uncertain what the new owners will do with the property.
