Dear Ms. Vitug:

We would like to clarify information about the appointment of Acting NEDA Director General Augusto B. Santos in the article “Arroyo issues midnight madness of appointments” written by Aries Rufo, and its attached matrix entitled “Summary of key midnight appointments in GOCCs.” Both are published in Newsbreak and ABS-CBN News Online.

Rufo’s article wrote that the President “named acting director-general Augusto Santos in a full capacity on March 5.” Please be informed that Santos, being a Career Executive Service Officer (CESO), still maintains a plantilla position as Deputy Director-General of NEDA, while designated in an acting capacity as Director-General. The designation was made on August 19, 2009.

On the matrix, may we clarify that Santos was designated as Cabinet-member representative of Monetary Board, a position vacated by then Trade Secretary Peter B. Favila.

We hope you would correct the information in your website.

          Thank you.

                                                                                                            Very truly yours,

                                                                                               (SGD.) VICTORIA V. QUIMBO
