Rihanna teased what fans what fans can expect in her ninth studio album.

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, Rihanna got candid about her journey in creating her next record, admitting that it took a while before she figured out the sound of her next album.

"When I'm in the studio, I know that my time away from my kids is to blossom something that hasn't been watered in eight years. I've been in the studio the whole eight years. But it didn't hit me. I was searching for it," she recounted.

The pop star remarked that she was finally able to determine the sound of her upcoming record, which reflects who she is as an artist at this point in her life.

“I went through phases of what I wanted to do. 'This kind of album, not that album.' I know it's not going to be anything that anybody expects. And it's not going to be commercial or radio, digestible. It's going to be where my artistry deserves to be right now. I feel like I've finally cracked it, girl!'" she revealed.

Back in June 2024, Rihanna confirmed that she was returning to the studio for her ninth studio album.

"I think that music, for me, is a new discovery. I’m rediscovering things. I have been working on the album for so long that I kinda put all that stuff aside and now I’m prepared to go back in the studio. I’m gonna start — give me a second!"

Rihanna relayed that she will be working on new songs and at the same time, revisiting the tracks that she already recorded for the album.

"Yeah, I’m starting over. But I don’t want to neglect the songs that I have, so I actually want to go back and listen to stuff with new ears, with my new perspective and then see what applies and what I’m still in love with," she stated.

Rihanna's most recent album was Anti, released in 2016, featuring hits such as "Work" (ft. Drake) and "Kiss It Better."

In 2022, Rihanna returned with "Lift Me Up," a song featured on the soundtrack for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
