MANILA — Fresh from his Best Actor win at the ContentAsia Awards 2024, Arjo Atayde help a thanksgiving press conference to celebrate his latest acting award and announced three more projects including the newest ‘Bag Man’ series where he acted alongside Judy Ann Santos and John Arcilla.

But one thing that extra special at the moment for Arjo and the Atayde family, is that her sister Ria is due to give birth anytime now.

Their mother Sylvia Sanchez also expressed excitement for this big family moment.

“Excited yung dalawa. Happy ako pag nakikita ko sila. Sobrang alaga siya ni Zanjoe. Nakikita ko yung pagmamahal ni Z sobra kay Ria, kaya happy na ako.” she said.

“I am very excited sobra, it’s the first of us cousins in the Ataydes to have a pamangkin. Just overwhelmed by the situation of the Ria and Zanjoe story, I’m just here to support them all the way,” Arjo said.

Sylvia and Arjo witnessed how Ria’s husband Zanjoe Marudo took care of Ria’s needs during her pregnancy.

“I’m thankful kay Zanjoe for being so hands-on kay Ria, helping her out, prioritizing my sister and of course their baby. I’m just happy that keep getting stronger,” said Arjo.

Sylvia said, “Every day ko tinetext si Ria, ‘Buntis, lalabas na ba ang little boss ko?’ Sabi Niya ‘Ma, kalma lang kalma.’ Kasi anytime na eh.”

She added, “Happy siya. Okay siya ngayon, ready na actually siya.”

Ria and Zanjoe’s baby will be the first grandchild of Sylvia and Art Atayde.

The award-winning actress shared to ABS-CBN News the pair of shoes that she bought three years ago for her future grandchild.

“Meron akong binili na sapatos sa Cannes, three years ago. Dalawa, kasi maganda siya. Kung sino yung una kong magiging apo, pagbili ko sabi ko ‘ay wala pa akong apo’. Pero nung nakita ko, ang ganda, wala sa Pilipinas. Pero sige bibilhin kita. Mapupunta ito sa una kong apo.”

When Arjo was asked about his family plans with wife Maine Mendoza, he replied, “I don’t want to disclose na. But definitely, we talked about those things, and definitely in due time. I just have some priorities for now, ‘cause elections are coming. In due time. That’s one thing of course, that we’re looking forward to, to have our own family.”

Ria and Zanjoe exchanged vows March of this year, in an intimate civil wedding officiated by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.
