MANILA — A dance hit going viral years after its original release, like “Tala,” is as impressive as it is rare, but it looks like Sarah Geronimo may be the unwitting star yet again of a social media craze, this time involving her 16-year-old song “Sa Iyo.”

That’s thanks in part to Internet sensation Mimiyuuuh, who reminded his followers early this week: “Before ‘Tala,’ there was ‘Sa Iyo.’”

Accompanying that statement was his energetic dance cover of the 2003 tune, which, like “Tala,” prominently featured a dance choreography in its music video.

“Sarah G is the mother of evolution! Charles Darwin ka ghorl?” Mimiyuuuh captioned his video, which has garnered millions of views across social platforms.

The minute-long clip spurred nostalgic reactions, with many fans of Geronimo reminiscing how big of a hit “Sa Iyo” in 2003, the same year the pop star made her showbiz breakthrough.

The dance cover also made “Sa Iyo” a trending topic on Twitter, on top of generating a hashtag, #SaIyoDanceChallenge, with followers sharing their own videos performing the original choreography.

While Geronimo did foresee “Tala” becoming a dance craze, no matter how belated, it remains to be seen how she will react to a much older song resurfacing as a viral hit 16 years later.

Geronimo’s most recent televised performance of “Sa Iyo” was in February 2019, for a Valentine number in “ASAP Natin ‘To.” The song, however, has been a staple in her concerts over the years, with updated versions or as part of a medley.
