MANILA - After a series of setbacks and eliminations en route to the TNT All-Star Grand Resbak title, Mark Michael Garcia on Saturday was hailed grand champion.
Garcia bested Jex De Castro with an average score of 54.24 - taken from the total combined average of judges' scores and total number of votes.
Garcia's medley of '80s hits "You're the Inspiration" and "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" by Chicago and "Glory of Love" by Peter Cetera in round 2 of the championship received a standing ovation.
Before that, Garcia performed James Ingram's "I Don't Have the Heart.
De Castro, meanwhile, performed a medley of Basil Valdez's "Iduyan Mo" alongside Sarah Geronimo's "Ikot-Ikot Lang" and "Kilometro."
The judges commended Garcia's choice of sticking to his original genre.
"The fact na nag-stick ka sa genre na iyan, happy ako na bumabalik ang tunog na ito at hindi lahat ng gumagawa ng tunog na ito ay authentic," TNT judge Jaya said.
Garcia won a recording contract on top of a P300,000 cash prize.
