In an interview on Monday afternoon, Aquino also spoke up on rumors that Wurtzbach and Aquino’s brother, President Benigno Aquino III, were dating.

“All of us kaming mga sisters, from before pa, noong naru-rumor that they were dating, we like her. Because one, she could have easily denied [that they were dating] because that was the time na 'yung SAF big deal, and Noy was being hit left and right. But she spoke up for him. Kaya sabi ko ay matapang itong girl na ito, hindi nang-iiwan, hindi nagde-deny kaya bongga,” she said.

Aquino, however, drew laughs when she quipped that she doesn’t think Wurtzbach also liked her brother.

“I think she entertained him but the thing is, you can tell from her character na single-minded. Kinailangan na ito ang focus ko muna. Grabe naman ‘di ba nangalahati ang katawan and lahat ng training, pinagdaanan. Pero ‘di ba pinadalahan [ni Noy] ng flowers bago umalis?” she said.

Aquino said she has yet to know whether the President already sent a text message to Wurtzbach to congratulate her for her win.

Best answer

Meanwhile, Aquino said she agrees with how Wurtzbach answered in the question and answer segment of the competition.

During the Top 5 question and answer portion, Wurtzbach was asked about the reopening of US military bases in the Philippines. “I don’t see any problem with that at all,” she said, noting the “good relationship” between the two countries.

For the final question, she and her fellow Top 3 contenders – Colombia and USA – were asked why they should be named Miss Universe.

“To be a Miss Universe is both an honor and a responsibility… I want to show the world – the universe, rather – that I am confidently beautiful with a heart,” she said, adding that she wants to promote various causes such as HIV awareness.

Sharing that she thought Wurtzbach had the best answer, Aquino said: “I agree with her because in a world where China is so strong, we need them. Let’s be honest. Kailangan natin sila, let’s be friendly with them. Tama siya na sinagot niya yun. Totoo naman na kung i-survey mo naman, majority ng Pinoy, we love Americans.”
