MANILA - Internet sensation Alisah Bonaobra and singing contest veteran Abbey Pineda gave the coaches one last epic match performing Katy Perry's "Unconditional" before "The Voice of the Philippines" ended the Battle Rounds on Sunday.
While both Team Apl artists sang excellently, Lea Salonga felt that Bonaobra shone more.
"This is a difficult one to call because you're both excellent. But the voice that really cut through para sa akin ngayon ay si Alisah," she said.
Coaches Bamboo Mañalac and Sarah Geronimo also chose the 19-year-old singer.
"Abbey, she came a lot more clearer and more soulful. But Alisah was cleaner. For this battle, for just today, it will be Alisah," Mañalac said.
Making the tough call, Coach Apl.de.ap picked Bonaobra over Pineda, who was then stolen by Coach Lea.
Behind the cam drama
But it was a little more than an onstage battle between Bonaobra and Pineda before their Battle Rounds performance.
According to the Black Eyed Peas member, he noticed something wrong with his two artists during the band rehearsals. When he confronted them, he found out that there was a little misunderstanding between Bonaobra and Pineda.
The 19-year-old then talked to her mom, who in turn confronted Pineda.
For her part, Pineda said she was trying to explain to the teen singer about the workings of a duet.
But to her surprise, the singing contest veteran said the mom of her Battle Round opponent confronted her.
Apl, however, intervened before tensions rose further.
"Kailangan wala tayong stress or distraction because you want to have a good show. At the end of the day we want to have a good show," Apl said.
The two artists reconciled before their performance with Bonaobra admitting that she misinterpreted Pineda's actions.
