MANILA - Singing cop PO3 Jannet Cadayona emerged as Coach Apl.de.ap's choice after the she went head-to-head against R&B singer Arnee Hidalgo during the Battle Rounds of "The Voice of the Philippines" on Sunday.
The two women performed the OPM ballad "Kung Ako'y Iiwan Mo" by Basil Valdez, which came as a challenge for Hidalgo, whose original genre is R&B.
"Maraming aral ang kailangan kong gawin kasi hindi ko pa ito nakakatanta at may mga notes pa akong hindi ko alam," Hidalgo said in an interview before their performance.
The coaches were divided on who performed the song better, with Lea Salonga and Sarah Geronimo in favor of Hidalgo for managing to retain her original style, while Bamboo Mañalac and Apl.de.ap picked Cadayona for pouring her heart into the song.
"Hindi niya (Hidalgo) pa rin ni-let go 'yung genre niya, which is R&B. Pero ibinagay pa rin niya 'yung boses niya sa tema ng kanta," Geronimo said. "Para sa akin ang nag-stand out ay si Ms. Arnee."
But Apl thought the policewoman sang "with total heart, lahat todo-bigay."
While the Black Eyed Peas member chose the singing cop to stay on his tea,, it was not over for the R&B singer who was stolen by Bamboo.
"It's such a brave thing you did joining this competition. I admire that. So you're not going home," Bamboo said.
