MANILA, Philippines – Ace comedienne Pokwang on Sunday revealed that her estranged Japanese husband has been diagnosed with cancer.
During her guesting on “The Buzz,” Pokwang, star of comedy film “Nobody, Nobody … But Juan,” said the Japanese had recently contacted her after 16 years of no communication.
She said he was apparently trying to make amends as he sought her forgiveness.
When asked what could have prompted the Japanese to call her after more than a decade of no communication, Pokwang replied: “Kasi ang balita ko may cancer daw siya. Sinabi niya sa akin.”
Prior to her career in show business, Pokwang used to work in Japan. It was during those times that she married the Japanese. They have a son together, but the child died due to an illness.
Pokwang shared that the Japanese also wanted to see the grave of their son.
“Gusto lang niyang makita kung saan nakalibing ‘yong bata... Ang tagal. Bakit ngayon lang?... Gusto niyang humingi ng tawad. Sabi ko, ‘Napatawad ka na ng anak mo. Bata ‘yon, angel ‘yon,’” she said.
As for her part, Pokwang, recipient of People's Choice Award for Triumph Over Tragedy, said she has already forgiven him.
“Pinatawad ko na siya. Alam na po niya ‘yon,” Pokwang, who now has a daughter from a previous relationship, said.
