MANILA — “Kilig” is how Coco Martin would describe how he felt upon learning that one of his idols in showbiz was open to appearing in “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,” his long-running primetime series.

“Para akong babaeng kinilig! Sobra ko siyang idol, e, as in!” Martin said, referring to screen veteran Aga Muhlach. (See the 6:02 mark in the video below.)

“I’m sure alam ni Kuya Aga ‘yun, ‘pag may pelikula nga siya, nanonood ako ng premiere night niya. Sobra ko siyang iniidolo. Ang taas ng respeto ko sa kaniya,” he said.

Muhlach expressed his interest in guesting in “Ang Probinsyano” in November, saying he was just waiting for an offer.

“Noong sinabi niya ‘yun, parang natatakot ako,” said Martin, who is also credited as a director of the series. “Siyempre, makakatrabaho mo ‘yung iniidolo mo.”

Recalling his previous experience working with Lito Lapid, who had guest-starred in “Ang Probinsyano” prior to his Senate return early this year, Martin said: “Parang natutulala lang ako, nai-starstruck lang ako sa kaniya. What more kung makatrabaho ko itong taong ‘to?”

He surmised the same would be the case should Muhlach’s guesting push through.

“Sana, kagaya noong pag-guest namin ni Ate Juday,” Martin added, referring to the limited but prominent role of Judy Ann Santos in the series.

If he does join the cast of “Ang Probinsyano,” Muhlach will be the latest in a string of big-name stars to add new flavor to the action-drama over the years.

Having recently celebrated its fourth anniversary, the Dreamscape production is looking to raise the ante, according to Martin.
“Ang Probinsyano” is poised to go international in 2020, with the inclusion of foreign actors and the filming of scenes overseas, on top of larger-scale action sequences.

Asked whether he sees the series ending anytime soon, Martin said: “Mahirap sabihin, pero lahat naman kasi may katapusan. Ayan na ang clue, o — ‘Laban ng buong mundo.’ Wala nang next diyan! Mundo na ‘yan, e! Ano ‘yung next?”

Martin was referring to a tagline for the upcoming season of “Ang Probinsyano,” which was visible on a poster behind him during a recent press huddle.

“Ang focus namin ngayon talaga, hindi ko hahayaan ma-disappoint ‘yung tao, kasi ang haba nilang sinubaybayan, e. Naging part na nila ng pamilya ‘yan every night. Kumbaga, idi-disappoint mo ba sila?”
