MANILA — With a life that’s become an open book since her childhood, Angelica Panganiban has made no secret of her heartbreaks over failed relationships, as well as the lessons she learned from each of them.
Owing to her meaningful lines about love, both in movies and in real life, Panganiban has been dubbed “hugot queen” by her fans, who look to her for advice when it comes to their own relationship.
That interaction has even spawned an online series titled “Ask Angelica,” which released a third season Tuesday coinciding with the recent release of her film, “Unbreakable.”
Previous seasons were similarly launched with her movies: “The Unmarried Wife” in 2016, and “Ang Dalawang Mrs. Reyes” in 2018.
In the format, Panganiban reads questions from fans, and gives advice on how to navigate their love-related problems.
One such question was whether the lack of “spark” in a relationship is an indication that it should come to an end.
Noting that “spark” has a broad definition in the context of romance, Panganiban instead advises the fan to examine their individual happiness.
“‘Yung happiness ng isang tao, hindi mo ‘yun responsibilidad. Hindi mo responsibilidad na pasayahin ang partner mo. Siya ‘yung may responsibility sa own happiness niya. At dapat, responsible ka rin with your own happiness,” she said.
“Kapag dalawang tao kayong masaya, ‘pag na-combine niyo ‘yun, magiging sobrang saya kayo. Magiging okay ang lahat, kahit malayo pa kayo sa isa’t isa.”
The actress went on: “Dapat, make sure na masaya ka pa rin sa sarili mo at sa mga bagay na ginagawa mo, before questioning kung may spark pa ba ‘yung relationship, or may happiness pa sa relationship niyo.”
Panganiban also shared her opinion on a range of situations, from one’s best friend dating her ex-boyfriend, to a new flame quickly losing interest.
In the weeks leading up to the release of “Unbreakable,” Panganiban, in interviews, has been forthcoming about her own past struggles in relationships, and how she dealt with a recent heartbreak.
Panganiban has three known former boyfriends who are also in showbiz: Carlo Aquino, Derek Ramsay, and John Lloyd Cruz.
