MANILA - A sub-unit of the popular Japanese idol group AKB48 will be performing in Manila as part of an event celebrating the diplomatic ties between Japan and the Philippines.
AKB48's Team 8 has been included in the lineup of special guests, which also includes STARMARIE, for the "60 Years of Philippine-Japan Friendship Celebration" event which will be held at the Market! Market! Activity Center in Taguig on Sunday.
Entrance is free.
This is the second time members of the group will be in the country. Last year, Team 8 performed live and met with some of their Filipino fans at the 2015 Cool Japan Festival, in addition to making an appearance on the noontime program "It's Showtime."
Formed in 2014, Team 8 is a sub-unit of AKB48 whose name is short for Akihabara48, after Akihabara in Tokyo. Back in March, the management agency of the all-girl group announced that a sister group based in Manila will join the AKB48 family.
