ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. dominated the 22nd Star Awards for Television 2008 held at SMX Convention Center near SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City Sunday evening.
ABS-CBN shows and stars won 22 of the 55 Star Awards categories but failed to bag the Best Station category, which went to GMA Network.
Piolo Pascual won Best Drama Actor for “Lobo” while Angel Locsin bagged the Best Single Performance by an Actress for Maalaala Mo Kaya's “Pilat” episode.
Sunshine Dizon took home the Best Drama Actress for “Impostora” while Joshua Dionisio brought home the Best Single Performance by an Actor for “Maalaala Mo Kaya” “Sako” episode.
Valerie Concepcion won the Best Female TV Host for “Wowowee” while Vic Sotto clinched the Best Male TV Host for “Eat Bulaga.”
The Best Variety Show went to “Wowowee” and “Eat Bulaga.”
Best Drama Anthology went to “Maalaala Mo Kaya” while “Lobo” won the Best Primetime TV Series and “Sine Novela Presents: Maging Akin Ka Lamang” was named Best Daytime Drama Series.
Rufa Mae Quinto won Best Comedy Actress for “Bubble Gang” while Ogie Alcasid brought home the Best Comedy Actor for the same gag show.
“Ful Haus” got the Best Comedy Show while “Goin’ Bulilit” romped away with the Best Gag Show.
Meanwhile, Cristy Fermin and Ruffa Gutierrez tied for Best Female Showbiz-Oriented Talk Show Host for “The Buzz” while Boy Abunda won the Best Male counterpart. “The Buzz,” on the other hand, won the Best Showbiz-Oriented Talk Show.
Edu Manzano single-handedly won the Best Game Show Host while “Pilipinas, Game KNB”? got the Best Game Show award.
Abunda won again as Best Celebrity Talk Show Host while “Boy and Kris” took home the Best Celebrity Talk Show trophy.
The Best New Male TV Personality went to Robi Domingo for “ASAP ‘08” while the Best New Female TV Personality went to Patricia Gayod for Maalaala Mo Kaya's “Dagat” episode and Kylie Padilla for “Joaquin Bordado.”
Best Youth-Oriented Program was “Boys Nxt Door.”
Best Female Newscaster went to Vicky Morales for “Saksi: Liga ng Katotohanan” while the Best Male Newscaster went to Julius Babao for “TV Patrol World.”
“TV Patrol World” won the Best News Program while Ben Tulfo and his “Bitag” won the Best Public Service Program Host and Best Public Service Program, respectively.
The Best Documentary Special went to “Signos” while Kara David, Howeie Severino, Sandra Aguinaldo and Jay Taruc collectively won the Best Documentary Program Host for “I-Witness: The GMA Documentaries.” The latter also won the Best Documentary Program.
Korina Sanchez took home the bacon as Best Magazine Show Host for “Rated K” and the program also won the Best Magazine Show while Jessica Soho for “Hot Seat” won the Best Public Affairs Program Host and “Y-Speak” got the Best Public Affairs Program award.
“Unang Hirit” won the Best Morning Show while practically all its hosts won collectively the Best Morning Show Host.
Raymond Gutierrez, Issa Litton, Sam Oh and Tim Yap for “Living It Up” won the Best Lifestyle Show Host while the same show was named Best Lifestyle Show.
Ricky Reyes won the Best Reality Competition Program Host for “Gandang Reyes; Parlor Game” while his show bagged the Best Reality Competition Program.
“Pinoy Meets World” brought home the Best Travel Show while “Trip na Trip” hosts Katherine de Castro, Uma Khouny, Franzen Fajardo, Kian Kazemi and Jayson Gainza won collectively for its Best Travel Show Host.
Kim Atienza won the Best Educational Program Host for “Matanglawin” and the latter was named Best Educational Program.
“Art Angel” won the Best Children Show and its hosts Pia Arcangel, Tonipet Gaba and Krystal Reyes were declared Best Children Show Host collectively.
Two special awards were also given -- The Ading Fernando Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Ms. Rosa Rosal and Excellence in Broadcasting Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Sen. Legarda.
