For Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz, Rachel Peters, the country's candidate in this year's pageant, will make it at least to the final five.
"I think that Rachel, she's a standout. I think somehow, somewhere, she will come up at least in the top five," Diaz said in an interview with DZMM on Sunday.
"Bathing suit pa lang 'di ba? Knockout na," she added.
Diaz explained she did not want to get her hopes up as she might end up being disappointed if Peters fails to win the crown.
Yet she believes Peters will make it to the last round of the pageant.
"We must not always expect para hindi tayo disappointed pero I think Rachel will do well," Diaz said.
Diaz acknowledged that there is a difference between pageants now and during her time.
"With the internet, social media, talagang we are so aware of what it takes. Hindi na by luck ... everything is already so available to us," she said.
Diaz even noted how most pageant candidates are willing to go under the knife to improve appearances.
"Kahit ako hindi ako uubra now because if I'm lacking in boobs, no matter what hindi ako magpapadagdag ng boobs," she said.
Diaz was the first Filipina candidate to bag the Miss Universe title, followed by Margaret Moran in 1973 and Pia Wurtzbach in 2015.
