Nora, Brillante win big at Asia Pacific Screen Awards

MANILA, Philippines – Nora Aunor and Brillante Mendoza again brought honor to the country after bagging two awards at the 6th Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) in Brisbane, Australia Friday night.

Aunor won Best Performance by an Actress while Mendoza won the Achievement in Directing award for the film “Thy Womb”.

Aunor was chosen as the best actress over four other nominees, Vidya Balan from India (“The Dirty Picture”), Cho Min-Soo from South Korea (“Pieta”), Humaima Malick (“Bol”) from Pakistan, and Darya Ekamasova from Russia (“Zila bila odna baba”).

Best Feature Film was awarded to Turkey/Greece’s “Beyond The Hill”.

Aunor and Mendoza were informed that they bagged the awards during the Philippine premiere of “Thy Womb”, which was held at the Sineng Pambansa festival at the SM Lanang in Davao.

“Thy Womb” was previously awarded the Bisato D’Oro, La Navicella or Venezia Cinema prize and the P. Nazareno Taddei Award Special Mention at the 69th Venice International Film Festival.
