MANILA — Edith Rodriguez is used to seeing tourists in her hometown of El Nido, Palawan, so one Caucasian man entering and singing at a local karaoke bar was nothing out of the ordinary for her.
But Rodriguez couldn’t help but become “hysterical” when she recognized the man as Ben Adams of the British boy band A1. It helped that Adams picked to sing “Like A Rose,” one of his group’s biggest hits.
“Napadaan lang sila kung saang videoke-han ako nandoon at kumakanta. It was so sudden... Kumanta lang talaga siya at napa-duet ako while taking video of him,” Rodriguez recalled in online messages with ABS-CBN News.
Videos of that duet, which Rodriguez uploaded on November 18, have since gone viral on Facebook, with some 2 million views and thousand of comments.
“Akala namin ordinary tourist at first, kasi sanay kami dito sa mga turista, until he started to sing na nga. Nag-hysterical ako at super yakap! Sinabihan niya ako ng, ‘You have a very good voice, continue to sing!’” Rodriguez said.
In her Facebook post, Rodriguez said she was still on “cloud nine” over the random encounter which resulted in a “dream come true.”
Adams, 37, arrived in the Philippines early this month to promote his holiday single, “This is Christmas,” with Filipino singer Morissette. He performed on “ASAP Natin ‘To” and had a guest appearance MOR 101.9, among others.
With work commitments finished, Adams appeared to have spare time to enjoy local beaches, as he shared on Instagram photos of him in Palawan with his girlfriend.
