Kapamilya actress Jodi Sta. Maria, who is currently in New York for the 44th International Emmy Awards, joined her fellow nominees for a panel discussion where she discussed her character in the 2015 hit series "Pangako Sa 'Yo."
Sta. Maria is nominated as best actress for her performance as Amor Power in the remake, while ABS-CBN Star Creatives' "Bridges of Love" is nominated as best telenovela.
"It's a story of a woman, a story of a pure soul that was broken because of a greedy and evil (character). All this woman wanted was just to get back to her offenders. And it's really giving our audience an option whether to live in unforgiveness and regret that could just drive you to get back to people and lash out on them or just to forgive and live in peace," Sta. Maria said.
"She wanted revenge but at the end of the day when she had it she didn't have peace at all," she added. "So it's really presenting people that hate does not drive out hate but it's really love that can do that," she added.
Sta. Maria also shared how she prepared for the role.
"I was only given about few months to prepare for the role. One of the challenges really is that we receive the script the night before we shoot or sometimes we just receive the script on the set. In the Philippines sometimes we work more than 18 hours a day. It was really a challenge, but it was really with the help of our directors who helped us internalized when we did characterization of this character her aspirations, her dreams, as a mother, as a sister and as a friend," she said.
The actress also told the panel that "Pangako Sa 'Yo" was a remake and that it was "well received in the Philippines."
"It did well when it comes to ratings and I'm very happy that I got to challenge myself to do something like this since I came from a series called 'Be Careful With My Heart,' a comedy (series) which ran for two years," she said.
The International Emmy Awards will be held on Monday (US time).
