MANILA – US President Donald Trump was up on his feet to give a standing ovation to the Filipino artists who performed at the gala dinner for the 31st ASEAN Summit on Sunday.
As seen in the video from RTVM, Trump was enthusiastically clapping even before the number was over.
The US President was obviously delighted with the hair-raising performances from Lani Misalucha, Jed Madela, Jona, David Ezra, Darren Espanto, Elha Nympha, Sam Shoaf and the jazz group Baihana that he even raised his fists in the air.
Speaking to ABS-CBN News on Monday, Jona said the event is definitely one for the books.
“Siyempre po very privileged and honored to be part of that event. Kumbaga mako-consider ko po na isa po siyang historical event na nandoon po kami stage nagpe-perform in front of many presidents and prime ministers at iba't ibang government officials po sa iba't ibang bansa,” she said.
Asked to comment on Trump’s reaction, Jona said: “Siyempre very proud po talaga na nai-showcase po ang talent natin as Filipinos.”
Jona said all their hard work definitely paid off.
“Nakakatuwa po talaga at nakaka-relieve na 'yung pinaghirapan po namin for how many days… natapos namin at nairaos namin,” she said.
