MANILA - Are you wondering why Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, whose tandem is popularly known as "KathNiel," became a worldwide trend on Twitter on Thursday?
The teen stars were among the Kapamilya personalities who appeared in ABS-CBN's Christmas station ID, which debuted after the network's primetime newscast "TV Patrol."
The music video shows ABS-CBN personalities thanking important people in their lives and paying tribute to those who give service and serve as inspiration to others.
For their part, Bernardo and Padilla wrote letters addressed to each other.
Bernardo's letter read: "Thank you, Daniel. Hi Bal! Mery Christmas! Thank you sa pag-aalaga. Stay as you are. Can't wait to spend another year with you. God bless you."
Similarly, Padilla expressed gratitude to his leading lady and rumored girlfriend: "Thank you, Kathryn, at ikaw ang nagpapatino sa akin! Many more years na magsasama tayo! Merry Christmas!"
Shortly after the airing of the station ID, which only gave a glimpse of the letters, fans of "KathNiel" took to Twitter to air their reactions to the scene featuring their idols.
Within an hour of the video's debut, "#ThankYouKathNiel" zoomed up as a trending topic on the micro-blogging site worldwide, as did "KathNiel Kapamilya Thank You" in the hours leading up to the premiere.
Bernardo and Padilla, who were last seen together onscreen in "She's Dating the Gangster," will co-star anew in a remake of "Pangako Sa 'Yo" next year and a Valentine's Day offering of Star Cinema, according to the actress.
