MANILA – It's official: The phenomenal teleserye “Pangako Sa ‘Yo” will be remade with Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.

The confirmation came from Bernardo herself when asked about her forthcoming projects at the press conference for one of her endorsements on Tuesday.

One of these is the remake of “Pangako Sa ‘Yo,” which originally starred Jericho Rosales and Kristine Hermosa.

“I will be doing a movie with DJ and I think it will air po sa February next year. We will start shooting this month. After the movie, I’ll be doing a teleserye with DJ again and that’s ‘Pangako Sa ‘Yo.’ Lahat for next year,” she said. DJ is Padilla's nickname.

This is the first time that Bernardo confirmed the report since it surfaced early this year. In her previous interviews, Bernardo would only say that she would definitely be overjoyed if the project would be offered to her.

The 18-year-old actress couldn't contain her excitement over the prospect of bringing the pioneering "teleserye" to a new generation.

"Wow! Grabe, sobrang saya talaga. Kasi parang lahat tayo, alam 'yung 'Pangako Sa 'Yo.' Walang taong hindi nakapanood no'n, bata palang ako noon," she said.

While the news has only been confirmed on Tuesday, Rosales already expressed his support for Bernardo and Padilla in an earlier interview.

“If they are getting Daniel and Kathryn, ang lakas ng tandem na ‘yan. I’m sure ang lakas ng chemistry nilang dalawa. And ‘Pangako Sa’ ‘Yo,’ ang isang power nun is the chemistry between Angelo and Yna and their love story. Buhay na buhay naman 'yun sa love team nila Daniel and Kathryn. I’m just honored,” he said.

Originally aired in 2000, "Pangako Sa 'Yo" centered on sweethearts Yna (Hermosa) and Angelo (Rosales), who are anguished over the discovery that they might be half-siblings. When secrets from their parents' past unravel, Yna and Angelo are relieved to find out that they have no blood relation.

The top-rating teleserye was also popular for the rivalry of business tycoon Amor Powers and hacienda matriarch Claudia Buenavista, respectively portrayed by Eula Valdez and Jean Garcia.

Since 2002, "Pangako Sa 'Yo" has been aired in over 20 foreign territories, making it arguably the most successful Philippine TV series to air internationally.
