MANILA - Marlene Aguilar said she had warned her niece, singer Maegan Aguilar, about her partner well before an incident over the weekend that supposedly left the latter with injuries.

Marlene, sister of Filipino music legend Freddie Aguilar, took to Facebook to comment on Maegan's altercation with her live-in partner, Alexander "Ali" Sanchez, last Saturday.

"I told Maegan to leave Ali, but she didn't listen," Marlene said. "I would never understand why women would stay with a man who is jobless and violent. Palamunin na nga 'yan, nananakit pa. Pero nung una pa lang niya sinaktan si Maegan, dapat pinalayas na siya ng pamangkin ko."

In her tell-all interview with ABS-CBN News' Mario Dumaual on Monday, Maegan claimed that Sanchez became violent when she ended their relationship, supposedly over the latter's fits of rage when in his drunken "blackout state" in the past year.

Maegan also alleged that Sanchez has long been unemployed and could not contribute financially to sustain their family. She said her gigs with her band were their sole source of income.

Following the altercation last Saturday, Maegan was granted a 15-day protection order against Sanchez.

According to the singer, Sanchez's family planned to put him in a rehabilitation center.

Maegan's father Freddie has yet to comment on the issue.
