A good many were caught off guard when her character, Samantha, a vampire who views her immortality as a curse, met her end in Tuesday's episode of "La Luna Sangre."
Maricar Reyes, as the sultry, blood-sucking warrior seeking to protect the chosen one, Malia (Kathryn Bernardo), was killed by the show's main baddie, Sandrino (Richard Gutierrez), her half-brother who is considered as the most powerful of their kind.
"Nagampanan niya iyong role niya," Reyes said of her character's sudden death in an interview with ABS-CBN News' MJ Felipe. "She's really just there to serve, protect iyong bagong itinakda."
Her devotion to her role as protector to Malia, and the other leads, Tristan (Daniel Padilla) and Jacintha (Angel Locsin), quickly made her into a fan favorite, just two months after joining the cast.
Samantha was first thought to have been killed during "Imortal," the second entry to the franchise that began with 2008's "Lobo."
Her exit from "La Luna Sangre" prompted fan outcry, with many clinging to hope she would turn out to be alive, similar to how she was revealed to have survived her supposed death in "Imortal".
Asked about whether her character was truly dead this time, Reyes teased: "Manalig kayo sa creatives."
She also denied being pregnant, rumored to be the reason for her sudden departure from the show. "No. I'm sorry. Hindi pa. We're still waiting and we're still trying. Abangan and keep praying for us."
Reyes added that she continues to be grateful for the massive support she has been getting, saying that Samantha is one of her favorite roles to play.
"Ang saya niya kasi she's good and bad. Hindi siya squeaky clean, hindi rin siya super bad so puwedeng may laro doon. It's a nice break from the drama," she explained.
