MANILA - Leah Patricio has been searching for her fortune since she was a kid, joining singing contests even in far-flung towns.
It has been a long and tiring search, but during the Blind Auditions of ''The Voice of the Philippines'' aired on Sunday, the 35-year-old singer may have found her fortune.
Patricio wowed the coaches with her powerful rendition of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You."
''Alam kung paano namnamin 'yung kanta mo. Napaka-powerful [ng boses mo]. Napupuno 'yung buong studio ng boses mo,'' Coach Sarah Geronimo said.
Coach Lea Salonga also noted how Patricio sang the Houston classic like she really meant it.
It sounded na napaka-personal and it became more interesting. And there came the key change tapos, tapos na ang usapan,'' she said.
The two coaches wooed Patricio, but in the end she chose her longtime idol and namesake.
"Idol ko po talaga si Ms. Lea," said Patricio, whose brother is also named Gerard.
