MANILA - Miro Valera, who was the vocalist of now disbanded rock band Stonefree, got another shot at doing what he loves best as he gets a spot in Lea Salonga's team on the second season of "The Voice of the Philippines."
A self-proclaimed mama's boy, Valera said he joined the contest to make his mother, who is his No. 1 fan, happy.
On the show's episode aired on Sunday, Valera wowed the judges with his rendition of The Beatles' "Ticket to Ride," making both Bamboo and Salonga turn for him.
"Sir Miro, baka meron lang po akong ibang hinahanap, baka ibang genre 'yung hinahanap ko, pero excited po ako para sa inyo," Sarah Geronimo explained for not turning for Valera.
"You have a great, strong voice. The reason why I didn't turn, cause I, meron na akong similar sa style mo. But, two of the best coaches turned for you, and they will give you the ticket of a lifetime. So, congrats, you're in," apl.de.ap said.
"It was very different na parang napakalayo sa Beatles, pero napaka-fresh ang approach. I think you know bilang isang artist kung sino ka, so we just have to build upon that kung magbibigay po kayo sa akin ng pagkakataon na maging coach niyo," Lea Salonga said.
"I totally get what you're saying, man. Ako, even if we have to starve, 'yan ang gagawin natin eh, nothing changes that. I think you make a great part of the team, of the group, of the family," Bamboo told Valera.
Valera eventually chose to be part of Team Lea, joining balikbayan balladeer Timmy Pavino, Jose Manuel Cubil and Leah Patricio.
"Ang rason ko kung bakit ko po pipiliin ang coach na 'to ay, I've seen gaano siya ka-passionate doon sa mga napili niya, noong nakaraan. Pipiliin ko po na makasama sa biyahe uli, tingin ko ticket ko ulit, si Ma'am Lea," Valera said.
