MANILA -- Two contestants who happen to be the children of a popular Filipino singer failed to make the coaches turn their chairs during the blind auditions of the second season of 'The Voice of the Philippines'.
Dorica Carla Puno, 30, and her brother, Juan Rocho, 28, both tried their luck on "The Voice". As children of popular singer Rico J. Puno, both Doki and Rox have been exposed to music ever since they were young.
Doki went through the auditions first, singing a rendition of Estelle's "American Boy". Unfortunately, she was not able to make any of the coaches turn their chairs.
"For this song lang, how rhythmic it is, 'yung clarity of the vocal, is necessary," Bamboo said.
"Sa akin din, I agree with Bamboo. It requires a certain amount of diction and enunciation of the word," apl.de.ap said.
"Siguro 'yung key ng kanta, parang nagsa-struggle ka para abutin 'yung nota, and for something like that, parang the more relaxed 'yung feel, 'yung dating sa amin, napakadali," Lea Salonga told Doki.
"Singing is also storytelling, especially 'yang song na 'yan, hindi naman kinakailangan ng mga grunts o mga birit-birit. Kailangan intinding-intindi lang namin talaga 'yung kanta. Thank you for joining," Sarah Geronimo said.
Doki's younger brother, Rox, came in next. He performed The Police's "Every Breath You Take".
However, just like his sister, Rox also failed to make any of the coaches turn their chairs for him.
Asked for his reason for joining the contest, Rox said he wants to prove to people that he doesn't sound like his father.
"Sumali po ako sa 'The Voice' para marinig naman po ako ng iba, na hindi ko po kaboses 'yung tatay ko," Rox said.
"You have a nice voice, but you were flat at some point," apl.de.ap said.
"Parang it came on a little too strong, which, hindi naman kinailangan 'yung ganoong klaseng attack. Knowing that there is something in your voice, na maganda, keep going," Salonga told the younger Puno.
"Parang narinig mo 'yung comment namin kay Doki tapos ginawa mo eh, sinobra mo. You pushed too much. We know you have the power, you have the voice, that's in your genes, that's in your blood, hindi mawawala 'yun. It's a matter of paano mo ilalabas 'yung kwento," Bamboo said.
"Siguro dahil nasa audition kaya parang nandoon 'yung conscious effort natin na magpa-impress, na minsan nakakalimutan natin na ang singing nga ay hindi lamang para mang-impress. Nagku-kuwento ka, expressing your emotions. Pero ang ganda nung high note niyo," Geronimo said.
Rox and Doki, together with their father, also gave the coaches a sample of their father's hit, "Macho Gwapito".
