The veteran director, who celebrated his 77th birthday on Monday, admitted that there were critics who questioned the appointment of Fernando Poe's daughter over him.

Borlaza has been in the movie industry since the 1960s and is also credited for veteran actress Vilma Santos' stardom.

He directed movies like Santos’ “Darna,” “Dyesabel” and Sharon Cuneta's “Bukas Luluhod ang mga Tala” and “Bituing Walang Ningning.”

Borlaza gave credit to Poe-Llmazares for bringing new blood to MTRCB., adding that his respect for her grew after working with her.

Borlaza even vowed to continue Llmanzares' advocacies.

Asked if he is hoping to be appointed by Malacañang as the next MTRCB chief, the director said the decision is up to President Benigno Aquino III.

But he stressed that he will not be disappointed if the President ever chooses someone else over him, saying Aquino will definitely have good reason for his choice.

Borlaza is now gearing up for the busy season of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

He said he is prepared for the controversies during the MMFF knowing that one cannot please everyone especially since the film festival is a competition.
