MANILA – Singer Jona tried to hold back her tears in a live television interview on Thursday as she was asked about the recent death of her father.
On the ABS-CBN morning talk show “Magandang Buhay,” Jona shared her emotional struggles as she continues to prepare for her upcoming concert while mourning her father’s passing.
“Grabe ‘yung pinagdaanan ng daddy ko, sobrang nakakaawa,” she said. “Hindi namin in-expect sa pamilya tapos ang bilis na ng mga pangyayari.”
“Dire-diretso ‘yung trabaho, parang hindi po talaga ako puwedeng mag-break down kasi nga naaapektuhan ‘yung boses ko,” she continued. “Kaya nga sabi ko, parang kailangan kong mailabas ‘to pero hindi ko alam papaano or kailan. So bahala na lang po si Lord.”
The singer’s father died last October at the age of 51. Her concert, meanwhile, is set on November 18 at The Theatre at Solaire.
“Magandang Buhay” hosts Karla Estrada, Melai Cantiveros, and Jolina Magdangal expressed their support for Jona, reminding the singer that it is okay to take a moment to cry and “be normal.”
“It’s okay na umiyak ka, Jona. Iiyak mo ‘yan kasi you need that,” Cantiveros said. “Maiintindihan ka ng mga fans, maiintindihan ka namin.”
Estrada, for her part, said: “Grabe ‘yung pagsubok mo, na gusto mong iiyak pero wala kang lugar, wala kang time. Pero Jona, minsan choice ‘yun ng buhay and one day, maiiyak mo ‘yan.”
“It’s okay to cry, it’s okay to mourn. It’s okay to be normal, these are normal things na dapat pinagdadaanan mo,” she added. “Puwede kang mabaliw ng isang araw. Ganoon talaga eh.”
