MANILA -- A bassist proved that having a disability should not be a hindrance in pursuing one's dreams, as he became part of Team Bamboo in the second season of "The Voice of the Philippines."
Karlo Mojica of Makati City has been unable to walk properly ever since he was young. In an attempt to have him cured, his parents brought him to different doctors for treatment, but he was still unable to walk.
Despite his disability, Mojica tries to be independent. He decided to join "The Voice" to prove that even persons with disabilities (PWD) can reach their dreams.
On the show's episode of Sunday, Mojica sang Freddie Aguilar's "Bulag, Pipi, Bingi" and both Bamboo and apl.de.ap turned for him.
At the end of his song, Mojica received a standing ovation from all four coaches and the studio audience.
"Hindi lang ako umikot dahil 'yung team na parang bini-build ko, parang it's not quite what I'm looking for. Pero noong umikot na itong dalawa, hindi, tama na. These two are the right guys for you. So, congratulations that you made it in," Lea Salonga said.
"Wow, nakakataba ng puso ho na makita kayo na talagang buong-buo ang pangarap ninyo, at talagang buong-buo din ang puso ninyo na habulin 'yun, na yakapin 'yun. Salamat po," Sarah Geronimo told Mojica.
"Napakasarap ng damdamin ng boses mo. That was an amazing performance. We have a similar story. I myself I'm disabled, I'm legally blind but I never let that stop me in achieving my dreams. And I see that, I see that in your heart, in your soul, and I think talagang bagay na bagay na tayo at matutulungan natin ang isa't isa. Sana mapunta ka sa team ko," apl.de.ap. said.
"Sa totoo lang, akala ko ako lang ang umikot eh. Ginawa ko, pinplay down ko pa, steady lang 'yung mukha ko, huwag kang maging excited. Tapos, may sumama eh. I guess 'yun 'yun eh. Akala namin kami lang, kasi 'yung boses mo, nahuli kami. 'Yung lumalabas sa'yo ay totoo," Bamboo said.
Mojica eventually chose Team Bamboo, explaining that both of them experienced being in a band.
