MANILA -- Veteran actor Renato del Prado, who is best remembered for his role as Guido in the 1980 TV drama "Anna Liza," passed away on Saturday due to colon cancer, according to his daughter. He was 73.
Del Prado died in his home in San Diego, California, his daughter, Pilar Mateo, said in a post on her personal Facebook page.
"Dear Lord, we surrender our dad to Your loving care in heaven," she said. "I know daddy's in a better place. At sa [pagtugon] mo sa 'ming mga panalangin, na huwag na siya mahirapan. Eternal rest grant unto my daddy."
Before becoming a household name with his portrayal of a cruel stepfather in "Anna Liza," del Prado, in the 1960's, became synonymous with "kontrabida" on the big screen.
He took on villainous roles opposite film icons such as Dolphy and Fernando Poe, Jr. in several films produced by Sampaguita Pictures.
