MANILA - The highly anticipated return of "The Voice of the Philippines" last Sunday reigned nationwide ratings, according to producer ABS-CBN.
Citing TV ratings data from Kantar Media, ABS-CBN said the pilot episode of the singing competition's second season registered a national TV rating of 28.3%.
Its competing program on GMA-7, "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho," in comparison, only garnered a nationwide rating of 17.2% on the same day.
The big viewership of "The Voice of the Philippines" was reflected in conversations online as it aired, with several terms related the program figuring in the top trends on Twitter.
At one point, the episode's official hashtag was the No. 1 trending topic locally and worldwide on the micro-blogging site.
By the end of the first episode of "The Voice of the Philippines," the four coaches each managed to recruit one artist into their respective teams.
Balladeer Timmy Pavino picked Team Lea, police officer Jannet Cadayona joined Team Apl, rocker Tanya Diaz chose Team Bamboo, while reggae singer Kokoi Baldo got into Team Sarah.
