MANILA – With a career that spans for over 50 years, Vilma Santos shared that her greatest achievement in life is having her sons, Luis and Ryan.
Luis is Santos’ son with her ex Edu Manzano, while Ryan is her son with her husband, Senator Ralph Recto.
Speaking to Yes! Magazine for its October 2015 issue, Santos said she always feel overjoyed whenever people would commend the way she raised her two sons.
“Parte na ng legacy ko 'yan," she said.
Although the two have a 15-year age gap, Santos said she is happy to see how they have bonded.
“[Luis] is such a big brother to Ryan. Do you know that they do muay Thai together? And then tinuruan niya yung kapatid niyang mag-dive, lahat! Nagpupunta si Ryan kay Lucky, bonding silang magkapatid,” she proudly shared.
Nonetheless, Santos revealed that there was a time when Luis got jealous of his younger brother.
“Kasi siyempre he was the baby the whole time. So noong pinanganak ko si Ryan, ayaw dalawin sa hospital. Nasa incubator pa si Ryan, hindi dumalaw si Lucky,” she said.
“Pagdalaw niya, siguro on my fifth or sixth day na sa hospital, alam mo bang dala niya 'yung baby album niya? Sa mga bisita ipinapakita. ‘Oh this is me when I was a baby.’ Nagselos talaga,” she added.
It was only when Ryan turned five years old, Santos said, that her two sons started to develop a close relationship.
“Noong nakakalaro na niya,” Santos recalled.
The veteran actress said people close to her know how much she prioritized her family.
“I’m a mother, sabi ko sa kanila. Kaya maski Batangueno, alam nila Sunday is sacred. Kung hindi rin lang importanteng-importante, they will not touch my Sunday. Kahit may kasal or binyag, they will not kasi alam nila that’s for the family,” she said.
