MANILA - Liza Diño on Friday appeared shocked by the decision of her father, former chairman of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) Martin Diño, to run for president in the upcoming 2016 elections.
The older Diño filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) under PDP-Laban minutes before the deadline at the main office of the Commission of Elections in Manila.
On her Facebook account, Liza, who is the wife of singer Aiza Seguerra, posted a photo of her father. It had the caption: "So my father decided to run for president. #stillinshock"
Martin's decision fueled speculations that PDP-Laban will eventually replace him with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, who is also a member of the party.
Duterte, however, denied this in an interview with DZMM. He said: "Wala nang substitute-substitute. Hindi naman ako pang substitute eh, pang-original ako, bakit ako gawing substitute?"
