'Katy' revival takes home key honors

MANILA -- After winning the recently concluded "The Voice of the Philippines," band vocalist Mitoy Yonting took home another trophy Tuesday night, this time from the 26th Aliw Awards.

The 43-year-old singer won the award for Best Performer in Hotels, Music Lounges, Bars for his stint as a regular performer at Resorts World Manila's Bar 360. His band, The Draybers, won the same award recognizing groups.

Yonting is not the only Kapamilya star who was recognized by this year's Aliw Awards, which honors singers, musicians, stand-up comedians, theater artists and other live performers.

Winning Best Emcee at the Manila Hotel event were Toni Gonzaga and Luis Manzano, with Bamboo and Abra taking home the Best Major Concert and Best New Solo Artist awards, respectively.

In the theater categories, Spotlight Artist Center's revival of "Katy" won several awards, including Best Musical Production, Best Actress (Musical) for Isay Alvarez, Best Actress in a Featured Role for Dulce, and Best Actor in a Featured Role for Tirso Cruz III.
