MANILA - A video of Lea Salonga performing "A Whole New World," which paved the way to her being inducted as a Disney Legend, is now making the rounds online.
The Broadway star was the original singing voice of Princess Jasmine from "Aladdin," the 1992 Disney animated classic that popularized the tune.
The nearly three-minute video shows Salonga performing "A Whole New World," originally a duet with Brad Kane as Aladdin's singing voice, this time with Il Divo in one of their concerts early this year.
The show was part of the operatic vocal group's "A Musical Affair" world tour, which will have Salonga as a guest performer in several more shows across Europe this month.
While the video was uploaded in April this year, it only went viral after US entertainment news website ET Online posted it early this week.
Several more US media outlets followed suit, with MTV.com, Perez Hilton, and Broadway World, among others, gushing over the months-old performance.
Before ET Online shared the video, it only had over 100,000 views. Its hits have more than tripled at 333,000, as of writing.
Salonga, a Tony-award winner for her lead role in the Broadway hit "Miss Saigon," was also the singing voice of the title character in Disney's "Mulan" in 1998. She officially became a Disney Legend in 2011.
In the last quarter of 2014, Salonga will return as one of the four coaches of ABS-CBN's "The Voice of the Philippines," alongside Bamboo Manalac, apl.de.ap, and Sarah Geronimo.
