MANILA — Nine years ago in March 2010, a young Maine Mendoza, with aspirations of joining showbiz, tweeted the oft-heard greeting from celebrities on the music channel MYX.
“Hi. You’re watching MYX. The number one music channel in the Philippines,” she wrote in the nearly decade-old tweet, channeling the stars she would see then on television.
On October 2, Wednesday, Mendoza got to record the same greeting, as she, for the first time, set foot inside the MYX studios inside the ABS-CBN headquarters.
Quoting her post in 2010, Mendoza wrote on Wednesday: “Tweeted this 9 years ago and now I am here at Myx! Guest lang naman ako pero waaaahhh nakakatuwa!”
The fulfillment of that dream was the result of many circumstances aligning for the 24-year-old actress, starting in 2015.
That was the year Mendoza rose to fame when her viral Dubsmash videos led to a hosting stint on “Eat Bulaga,” aired on ABS-CBN rival network GMA-7.
Prior to that, Mendoza had intended to join the ABS-CBN reality show “Pinoy Big Brother.” Mendoza auditioned, it was belatedly revealed in 2018, but did not clinch a slot as a housemate.
Being identified with GMA-7 would have narrowed the chances of Mendoza doing a MYX spiel, but then “Isa Pa with Feelings” came along.
Black Sheep, an ABS-CBN Films group, had offered Mendoza a lead role in the film as early as 2018. After a series of back-and-forth between the Kapamilya film outfit and APT Entertainment, which handles Mendoza’s career, what was previously unthinkable happened.
Mendoza would finally get to star in an ABS-CBN project, which also meant doing a promotional tour spanning the network’s various platforms, among them, MYX.
