MANILA -- Actor Coco Martin on Thursday thanked veteran actress Susan Roces as they marked the first anniversary of ABS-CBN's hit primetime series "Ang Probinsyano."

In a press conference for the show's anniversary, Martin said "Ang Probinsyano" would not have been possible without the help of Roces, the widow of the late action movie icon Fernando Poe Jr.

"Mula sa cast, mula Dreamscape, sa ABS-CBN, 'La, maraming, maraming salamat po sa pagmamahal at tiwalang ipinagkaloob niyo sa amin. Dahil po sa inyo kaya po nabuo ang 'FPJ's Ang Probinsyano.' I love you," Martin told Roces.

It was Roces who gave her blessing to Martin to do the TV adaptation of "Ang Probinsyano," which is based on the 1997 Fernando Poe Jr. movie.

She even asked the public not to compare Martin to her husband.

"It's his own interpretation. We should not expect him to mimic everything that the former actor portrayed and that goes for all the remakes, for all the projects inspired by a previous movie or teleserye," Roces said at the time.
