MANILA – Shane Filan, the former member of the Irish boy band Westlife, felt truly honored to be invited to sing in the final episode of “The Voice of the Philippines” held Sunday night.

Speaking to ABS-CBN News, Filan said it is amazing to see the large support for the show.

“I’m honored. To be asked to be on 'The Voice,' it’s a big show all over the world. But to have this size of an audience in a country is massive. When I heard about it, I said wow cool. This is my first solo trip and it’s great,” he said.

During the show, Filan performed with the Top 4 artists in a medley of Westlife’s biggest hits “Fool Again” and “Uptown Girl.”

Asked who his personal favorite among the Top 4 is, he said: “I like Klarisse. They all have beautiful voices but Klarisse is my personal favorite. I just think she has a very beautiful tone in her voice, she’s a good singer.”

Having been in the Philippines for the fifth time now, Filan said this visit is his most memorable one because he didn’t expect to receive such a warm welcome.

“It’s so far away from home and you realize that when you come into a country, you get so much attention, love and support. It’s overwhelming but it also leaves you smiling,” he said.

Filan said it is important for him to travel to countries to meet his fans.

“It’s great. It’s given me a little confidence, something that I need. I want people to hear my name, my music. I think it’s very important to travel to countries, to meet the people and get to see your fans. It’s important,” he said.

Meanwhile, the singer also played down talk of a Westlife reunion anytime soon.

“There’s no talk, there’s no plans at all. If I’m going to be honest, when we ended the band, we said, ‘You know what, this is something that we’ve took probably two or three years to decide.’ We don’t want to be one of those bands pretending or lying to our fans that we are splitting off and then we are also getting back together after two or three years,” he explained.

Filan added: “But who knows, maybe in the future? I love the boys and there’s no reason that sometime it might not happen but I think it may be a long time down the road. We’ll never know.”

Filan is currently in the country to promote his solo album.
