RR Herrera admits depression after failed showbiz comeback

MANILA, Philippines - Former child star RR Herrera has admitted that he got depressed after his plan to make a showbiz comeback a few years back failed materialize.

During his guesting in ABS-CBN’s “Kris TV” on Thursday, the host of the defunct kiddie show “Eh Kasi Bata” said that he wanted to step back in the limelight.

However, he was disappointed when he realized that realize that there was no more space for him in the industry.

He said, “Gustong-gusto [ko bumalik ng showbiz]. When I finished college, sabi ko may plan na bumalik ako. And then [I just realized na] parang mahirap kasi medyo masikip na. It was very depressing for me.”

However, when asked whether he ever regretted leaving the show business to focus on his studies, Herrera immediately shook his head.

According to him, receiving quality education is something he would never regret. More than that, he claimed that the satisfaction of bringing joy to his family by bringing home a diploma is priceless.

“I think more than education, 'yung pagtatapos ko eh 'yung sayang nadulot ko sa pamilya ko sa parents ko na nakita nila ako mag-graduate,” he explained.

Herrera received a bachelor’s degree in Communications Technology from the Ateneo de Manila University.

Currently, he works as a trainer for “Trainstation,” a training and consultancy firm specializing in communication management.

When he was asked to describe his job, Herrera said that it is not really far from what he used to do as a child actor.

He explained, “It’s still performing. I have my own stage. I do my own script. I talk to people, and 'yung instant gratification [nandoon] because nakikita kong natutulungan ko yung tao right then and there.”
