Born in Pangasinan and raised in California, JR de Guzman learned how to sing and play music in church.
But unlike other musically gifted Filipinos, he's taking a different approach in his career path in Hollywood.
Yong Chavez talked to De Guzman and found out how he ended up producing and starring in the new Netflix series, "The Comedy Lineup," where he jokes about racism, his beloved lola, and corruption in his hometown in the Philippines.
He's the only Filipino in the show, and he credits popular Pinoy standups Rex Navarrete and Jo Koy for paving the way for the likes of him to have a place in the comedy world.
"The Comedy Lineup" is already up on Netflix Philippines.
